It’s the October long weekend, 2005, and I’m perched in my recliner, eyes glued.
“One more page and I’ll go to bed” I keep telling myself
By the time I slip under the covers it’s 2am.
I’ve just finished reading Donald Trump’s memoir, ‘The Art of The Deal’ by Tony Schwartz.
My conclusion. The bloke is a brilliant negotiator and a word class bull sh!tter.
And his favourite words (other than his own name) are ‘very’ and ‘tremendous’. Still are.
But whether you like him or not, there’s one undeniable truth about Trump, he can read the room better than any politician on Earth.
Hence the reason he successfully tapped into a deep vein of discontented voters and won the election.
He found them and told them exactly what they wanted to hear.
And now the Oval Office is his 24 hr playground.
Trump’s favourite sport is making outrageous comments and playing the media like puppets.
But make no mistake, there’s a method behind his madness.
Trump’s opposition is not the rudderless democrats or the back-biters in his own party, it’s the media.
Especially the leftist media who would love to shut him up.
But they can’t because he continually binge feeds them offensive comments and winds them up like toy dolls.
And deep down, they crave his crap because it provides plenty of fodder for their news cycles. It’s a lot more than they got from ‘Sleepy Joe’.
Consequently, news bulletins are now a continuum of flashing red screens and ‘NEWS BREAKS!’
Here’s an example…
Two weeks ago, the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Primary Producer Index (PPI) figures were higher than expected suggesting inflation is heading up again.
And then this week, US data revealed consumer confidence had its sharpest fall in 4 years this January.
But the press looked past it.
Instead, the media were frothing at the mouth because Trump and Putin are now besties, supposedly!
Speaking of besties, how’s Elon’s form…
A few days ago he walked on stage wielding a chainsaw as a metaphor for his government cost cutting.
The audience gasped while the media clicked into overdrive, again.
But it gets better.
The father of 12 (or 13) thought it was a great idea to name one of his son’s, X Æ A-X12.
And no, that’s not a spelling error!
Seriously, the name looks like a bar code.
But like Trump, he honestly doesn’t care what others think.
And neither should you.
Trump and Musk are full blown narcissists which means they couldn’t give two figs about someone else’s feelings until they need something.
And that’s why you need to remember Trump’s playbook for deal making is always the same.
His first offer is always offensive in order to make his last offer look like a great deal for the other side.
The next four years will be exactly like the last four months, a media circus.
Don’t tumble for it.
Just turn the TV off and go to bed.
Have a great weekend!
Adam
Back paddock – fifty years ago today the first coloured TV came to life.
And if you weren’t one of the first people to own one, don’t feel bad.
The average price of a coloured TV in 1974 was $1,000 and the average wage was $7,000pa.
